LA TRAVAGLINA
About us
Founded in 1967 by grandfather Angelo inside the 17th-century farmstead of the same name in Santa Giuletta (PV), La Travaglina is a winery immersed in the vineyards of the first hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, at 270m above sea level.
With full respect for nature, we produce wines only from our own vineyards, which we have selected over the years according to the vocation of the soil and the best exposures offered by the single-body layout of the property.
Vinifying high quality grapes simplifies the work in the cellar and allows us to preserve the aromas and flavours of the land and our tradition for those who taste our wines.
We believe that an excellent wine must necessarily be born in the vineyard, starting from healthy, quality grapes that must be respected by the work in the cellar, with the aim of enhancing their territoriality without compromising their wholesomeness.

Sustainability
After the three years process in June 2024 we achieved organic certification; but the path towards sustainable management began in the early 1990s, when we started following the rules of integrated agriculture, eliminating herbicides and limiting intervention with synthetic plant protection products to a minimum.
For years we have used green manure to maintain the fertility of our vineyards, and sexual confusion to contain the presence of parasites. Where there is no green manure there is always natural grassing, managed with periodic mechanical mowing.
For over 10 years we have had a photovoltaic system that provides us with much of the energy we need on the farm, and we recover rainwater for reuse in the vineyard.
We are gradually replacing our historical bottles with lighter glass bottles, because the weight of glass is directly proportional to the amount of CO₂ emitted for its production.
Oltrepò Pavese: this is the name of the land on which our company stands, from which our wines are born, on which we have built our family history. There has been talk of this area in the province of Pavia since the time of the Etruscans, who probably introduced the cultivation of vines. Time has passed and today Oltrepò Pavese is the third largest Italian wine production area, characterised by Pinot Nero and Croatina.
Our company is located on the first hillside strip, in Santa Giuletta, where the total number of hectares is 33 of which approximately 30 are planted with vines, allowing the production of structured red wines, sparkling wines of great character and elegant, fresh, mineral white wines. Careful research, dictated by the desire to highlight the best ‘crus’, allows us to vinify some vineyards individually, including Casaia, Psei and Vigna delle Rocche.
As in a family, everyone in the company has a clearly defined role.
Elisabetta Dacarro takes care of the agronomic and administrative aspects in support of her brother Stefano, La Travaglina’s passionate oenologist, while Stefano Bottiroli, Elisabetta’s husband, is the commercial soul. Together with Federico, fourth generation and future technician, they represent the faces behind the wine production at cascina Travaglina.
